On October 19th, Hamas fighters attacked Israeli troops in Rafah, killing two soldiers. Israel responded with strikes across Gaza. The ceasefire survived.
Major Yaniv Kula, 26, and Staff Sergeant Itay Ya’avetz, 21, were killed when Hamas fired anti-tank missiles and gunfire at Israeli forces, what Israel called a “blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement.”
Israel struck back, targeting Hamas weapons storage, firing posts, and infrastructure. Aid was temporarily halted. Then, after U.S. involvement and consultation, Israel announced “renewed enforcement” of the ceasefire as aid resumes today.
