Berlin Holocaust Memorial Lessons On Fighting Hate

Walking through the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin is a sobering experience.
2711 concrete blocks, rising and falling like a wave of absence, a haunting reminder of the six million Jews murdered by Nazi Germany.

As a non-Jewish person, this visit isn’t just history. It’s responsibility.
To learn, to witness, to stand against all forms of hate and dehumanisation in the past and now.

At the Topography of Terror and the Berlin Story Bunker, the truth became clearer:
Fascism doesn’t start with violence.
It starts with division.
With “us vs. them.”
With leaders stoking fear, targeting minorities, stripping away rights little by little until cruelty becomes policy and silence becomes complicity.

The Holocaust was not inevitable. It happened because of choices made, step by step by politicians, institutions, and ordinary people who either enabled it or looked away.

We must recognise these warning signs when we see them. And we must not be silent.

Never again. For anyone.
