Commemorating Holocaust History and Fighting Antisemitism

Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, where six million Jews and countless others—including Romani people, those with disabilities, and LGBT individuals—were murdered.

After the Holocaust, survivors were left with nothing. Many were confined in displaced persons camps, as countries like the UK, US, and Canada imposed strict immigration quotas, refusing to accept them. In 1948, the establishment of Israel provided a glimmer of hope—a safe haven for Jews seeking refuge after years of persecution. By 1951, 700,000 Jewish refugees had made Aliyah, ultimately finding safety in their ancestral homeland.

Today, the warning signs of history repeating itself are clear. In the past year alone, synagogues and preschools have been firebombed in Australia and Belgium. Pogroms have terrorised Jewish communities in Amsterdam and Greece. Protesters at universities demanded “Jew-free” spaces, while globally, over 10,000 incidents of harassment, vandalism, and assault have been reported. Antisemitism has surged by 340% since 2022.

We are harassed, attacked, and vilified—our history weaponised against us. This is why we require Holocaust Memorial Day: to remind the world—Never Again.
