The claim that Jews are “European” or should “go back to Poland” disregards history and erases Jewish identity. Ashkenazi Jews are not European; we are an indigenous Middle Eastern people exiled from Israel. For over a thousand years, Jews in Europe lived as persecuted minorities, facing pogroms, expulsions, forced conversions, and genocide. Even after the Holocaust, survivors were attacked, their homes stolen, and many were forced to flee.
While Ashkenazi Jews lived in Europe, they were never truly European. Jewish ancestry, language, and culture—rooted in the Levant—demonstrate our indigenous origins. The idea that Jews are "white" or "European" erases the global and multiracial nature of Jewish identity. From Ethiopia to Iran, Morocco to India, Poland to Argentina, Jewish communities have existed worldwide for centuries.
Jewish peoplehood is defined by shared ancestry, history, and culture—not by modern racial categories. We belong in Israel, the land from which we were exiled, and in every place where we have rebuilt our lives. It is time to challenge the rewriting of Jewish history.
