Sexual violence is a global epidemic. 1 in 3 women worldwide experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. In Israel, over 90% of sexual assault survivors are women, and only a small fraction of reported rapes result in conviction — a pattern mirrored globally, where most rapists are never punished.

On October 7th, Hamas committed widespread atrocities, using rape and sexual violence as weapons of terror. Survivors and first responders have testified to brutal assaults against Israeli women — during the Supernova music festival, inside homes, and in captivity. These weren’t isolated acts, but part of a deliberate strategy of dehumanization.

We must believe survivors. Speak their truth. Demand justice.

As Jews, our values — tikkun olam, justice, compassion — call us to confront injustice and support the vulnerable. Raising awareness is a mitzvah. Silence is not an option.
