This week marks an unprecedented escalation in the Iran-Israel-US triangle and also an unprecedented Ceasefire: America’s B-2s and MOPs struck Fordow’s underground nuclear complex with an Iranian response on the US base in Qatar, followed by a fragile ceasefire maintained by Trump, which may or may not hold.
Israel, as it has done continuously over the last week, struck regime targets in Tehran with pre-dawn raids in the day leading up to the ceasefire. In retaliation, Iran’s attempted missile strikes on Haifa and Tel Aviv fell mostly flat but left heartbreak, like the death of a 7-year-old Ukrainian cancer patient, Nastia Borik, in a direct hit on Haifa’s medical centre.
In the diaspora, antisemitic violence flares: a London synagogue desecrated, a Brooklyn woman attacked, and Homeland Security warns of Iran-linked threats on U.S. soil. Meanwhile, the UK clamps down hard, proscribing Palestine Action as a terror group after attacks on military assets.
As Trump has publicly expressed anger at both Iran and Israel for continued engagement post-ceasefire after an Iranian ballistic missile was intercepted, the world watches closely.
