Today we mark Yom Yerushalayim, the day Jerusalem was reunified in 1967 and Jewish access to the Western Wall was restored after nineteen years.
For thousands of years, Jerusalem has been at the heart of Jewish prayer, memory, and identity. Jews across the world prayed facing this city through exile, persecution, and generations of longing. To many, Yom Yerushalayim represents not simply politics or geography, but the ability to stand once again in a place that has held spiritual meaning for over three millennia.
This day remembers history, resilience, and connection. It reflects what it means when somewhere prayed for across generations becomes reachable again.
Jerusalem is sacred to multiple faiths and carries profound meaning to millions of people around the world. At its best, this day can also remind us of the importance of preserving access, dignity, and respect for all who hold the city close to their hearts.
